The California Bicycle Museum began as the Pierce Miller Bicycle Collection, on temporary display at the University of California, Davis. While in search of a permanent home, the Museum contracted Spenlen Media to build a new website that would allow them to share the collection online.
The completed website features a sophisticated interactive exhibit gallery, allowing web visitors to browse the collection, learn about the history of the bicycles, and view high-quality photographs. Though it features animation and elegant transition effects, the exhibit gallery is implemented as standards-compliant HTML and CSS, ensuring wide compatibility with all major browsers without resorting to browser plugins such as Adobe Flash.
In addition, the website contains a secure online donation form, allowing visitors to make tax-deductible donations via major credit card or PayPal without ever leaving the site. A full administrative back-end provides donation reports, as well as volunteer logins for the maintenance of the exhibit gallery.
